Environment, Quality and Safety
Environment
Our focus at Dompé always has and always will be on the patient. We care deeply about making a meaningful difference to patients’ lives and improving their future health. As part of this, we also need to care for the future health of our planet. Climate change affects us all and is associated with increasing levels of ill health worldwide. That’s why we all have our part to play, including health organizations. For our part, our environmental commitment is one of the central pillars of Dompé’s development strategy.
As a start, we adhere to the highest operational and environmental standards in the regions we work in. For instance, in compliance with ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System we consider all environmental issues relevant to our operations such as air pollution, waste management, soil contamination, and resource use and efficiency. Over the past ten years we have invested consistently in improving our operations in line with this standard. Some of these initiatives include:
Wastewater Treatment Plant
In use since 2019, the biological water treatment plant at our L’Aquila production site is a high-performance system that returns water to the environment. The quality of this water is exceptionally good with impurity thresholds well below the parameters required by current legislation.
Waste Management
Waste management and atmospheric emissions management is crucial at our L’Aquila production site to help lower our environmental impact. In addition, at our Milan offices we have several waste management procedures in place for the disposal of equipment such as toners, paper, and furniture.
Quality
For Dompé, the concept of quality is more than just following a group of procedures and processes, it’s ingrained in our company culture. Quality is the cornerstone of our enterprise and is applied not only in the research, development, production and marketing stages but also in our staff, their training and the external environment in which our business operates.
Over a century of medical manufacturing expertise means we can produce the highest quality products that are safe and effective for patients. Our operations comply with many regulations and standards including:
ISO 13485 Medical devices. In addition, our medical devices department also complies with MDSAP (Medical Device Single Audit Program) International Regulations.
Our L’Aquila production plant has authorizations from the regulatory authority Agenzia Nazionale Italiana del Farmaco – AIFA, from the Chinese regulatory agency and we are authorized for trade in the European and Russian market.
We also follow applicable regulations from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including:
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Good Distribution Practices (GDP)
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GVP)
Good Clinical Practices (GCP)
Health and safety
We are committed to fostering a positive working environment at Dompé, where wellness is considered at every step. This includes maintaining the highest levels of health, safety and hygiene protection. Whether that’s at our production site in L’Aquila, Italy or within the R&D labs in Italy and the US we want our employees to feel safe and comfortable wherever they are working.
A culture based on prevention, transparency and mutual respect ensures all employees, and our external partnerships, are given adequate information and training. With everyone aware of our health and safety principles, together we can uphold safe working conditions.
We also have several measures in place to avoid or minimize professional risks. At our production hub in L'Aquila and at our offices in Milan and Naples, we have implemented management systems in compliance with the requirements of the ISO 45001:2018.
Our Risk Assessment Systems helps decrease the probability of accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases. To monitor the safety of our systems and processes, we have a range of operating procedures and control systems in place. We carry out both impromptu and planned periodic audits to ensure the safety of our working environments.
