Sustainability: the key word of our future
Environment, health, safety, and sustainability. These are four keywords that have characterized the vision and development of Dompé farmaceutici. Our research wants to bring benefit to the patient as quickly as possible: however, this generates the use of environmental resources as it happens for any other sector. As underling by United Nations, the rapidly growing rate of resource consumption around the world is unsustainable. For example, energy is the main responsible for climate change, accounting for about 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions. For this reason, it’s necessary to put more attention on environmental sustainability: this is essential for the future health of our planet.
“For some years Dompé has been committed to a program of objectives about environmental impacts” explains Annaletizia Baccante, Chief Industrial Officer of Dompé farmaceutici. For this reason, the company has installed a new wastewater treatment plant at its production plant in L'Aquila. Instead of choosing a classic system, has been chosen a biological one which not uses chemical substances. It is capable of return water to the environment with impurity thresholds well below the parameters required by current legislation. “It is a high-performance system. The water can be reused for both civil and industrial uses, guaranteeing the reuse of what we put back into the environment ”continues the Chief Industrial Officer.
In the last ten years, Dompé farmaceutici has invested 6.3 million euros in protecting and respecting the territory, and this has been rewarded by the significant results obtained in managing environmental impact and safety.
The growth triggered by the company’s entry into international markets has further highlighted the need to reconcile sustainability and process efficiency, and since 2001 it has been adopted an ISO 14001: 2015 environmental management system and a BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 safety management system which they partly anticipated the introduction of more stringent regulations, such as those on administrative responsibility for safety and health in the workplace.
The company's environmental sustainability is not a simple promise, but a daily commitment to bring value to future generations.
